It is now clear that PGA (Everclear) ethyl alcohol (ethanol) only very mildly attacks polystyrene. It does not noticeably attack ABS, but is listed as very mildly aggressive. My PGA test on my paper towel dispenser showed no noticeable effect. My confusion stemmed from what is in denatured ethyl alcohol.
