Seeing as the software would probably 20 years old and
the way the manuals for it originaly came - I would suspect
the manuals got lost a long long time ago.

Alternativly - Phil may have downloaded the freeware version
of protel from the web and that won't have come with manuals
(Though I think the free version may not have schematic in
it :P)

I would suggest looking at "RCS radio" or "Airborn" with the
word "protel" as well (on google of course) and you will find
tutorials on the use of the PCB software as well as modern VGA
drivers for the software.
