MFX Rear Panel Wiring

Here's one that should be much simpler than it's been.
I have a Series III rev. 9.34. It came with the older style of rear panel with the single SCSI port and no port for the MFX controller, which uses the CMI317 board.
I've got an MFX controller that I'd like to be able to use occasionally. I located a rear panel from an MFX that came with the CMI354 and CMI355 boards attached. I've installed it, but now the Series III alphanumeric doesn't work, whether or not I have the MFX keyboard attached.
From what I'm reading it should work, but no luck. Is there something that needs to be done cabling wise to make this unit function?
It appears that it's just a matter of reconnecting the 26 pin IDC that goes to the CMI310, the 10 pin IDC that goes to the Q133, and the power connector. This does, however, leave 2 26 pin IDCs on the CMI354 board that are unused.
Does anyone know anything about this wiring? Alternately, can anyone who has that later rear panel take a look and see if anything is hooked up to those 2 empty IDCs?
Is there something else obvious that I'm missing? When I hook up the MFX keyboard the qwerty part of that keyboard works.
Thanks,
Tim
