Hi fellow cmi enthusiasts, I finaly made some videoclips that I put on youtube . These page R sequences came with a large box containing lots of material from blue weaver. He also helped out the petshop boys with their live/television performances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2pdGMjf2r8&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsuYJdhq3Nw&feature=related cheers, David

Big thanks for posting those! That Blue Weaver stuff is important. Take good care of it. I liked the use of the comments in Page R. I took the liberty of making a blog post about it. David http://dvdborn.blogspot.com --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "dd_62622" <dd_626@...> wrote:

Yes, many thanks for these! I too have blogged about it, cross referencing DVDB's post for more info... http://www.failedmuso.com/blog/?p=1628 Let's not forget that these .rs files and the .in, .vc/.vcx files can all be imported in to the Fairlight Pro iOS app. I'd personally love to give this a go if those files were ever made available? J Regards, Rob.

Actually the sequence sounds very poor to me - very plastic-sounding, no dynamics and so on. I'm sure the Fairlight is capable of much better than that? David, it's interesting to know you have a lot of stuff with a Blue Weaver connection, though. A very under-rated player in view of some of the excellent things he did with the Strawbs, at least. I lost touch with his career when he joined the Bee Gees, though I remember him getting the Fairlight. Peter, while I'm not impressed with this as a Fairlight demo I agree with you entirely - a really good demo was needed at NAMM and I was surprised we didn't get one. Not a lot came out of NAMM in terms of demo film clips. It was all very basic - though hopefully it did its job of attracting potential customers. It would certainly have been nice to see a lot more in terms of Fairlight creativity.

Peter, Yes the bells and whistles demo was missing, largely because the bells and whistles didn't exist at that time ;-) We've been very busy in the meantime adding them, and are just in the process of documenting and videoing the main features. Noteworthy advances from the Series II/II CMI to the 30A include . highly accurate Page R - low latency means that phase relationships between the parts is predictable and stable I have made some awesome layered sounds using this. . The sound manipulation capabilities have been brought together in a single page now known as the Soundry, where you can forge new sounds or modify existing ones in interesting new ways . "goodness" control, which models the analogue peculiarities of the CMI in the digital domain, offering the best of both worlds, e.g. the goodness is not degraded by resampling (one of the options for the sampling input is the digital output of the 30A). I will be spending some time creating some youtube examples in the next couple of weeks. Best regards, Peter

EXACTLY how one would like to see a Fairlight demo'd these days!!! I think an all bells and whistles demo was missing at the recent NAMM 2011. Thanks. I thought it was worth seeing what they did with the thing we heard the other day - how it worked in context.

I do not understand your enthusiasm for this group... the compositions are not extraordinary, I would venture to say which are not wonderfully pleasant. Too banal, it tends to listen to that kind of girl group. ARFF how I break the myth ;)

Excellent riff at Pet Shop Boy's expense: http://youtu.be/_RC0DdrHbGg 1:56> "No one cares, no one sympathizes, so you just stay at home and play synthesizers"...

Thanks David. Always interesting to see the anatomy of a hit record. Some clever programming there, particularly the distorted tambourine. Is it possible to keep adding gain to a sample in the IIx? --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "dd_62622" <dd_626@...> wrote:

Hallo, the cmi lets you add gain to a sample with the page 6 gain function...this is a software function wich alters a sound's wavefroms the programming was done very clever indeed.,the quality of the samples is amazingly clear as well. --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "tomulcahy" <tomulcahy@...> wrote:

Cool, thanks for the info. Have you tried to import it to the Fairlight app? I guess transferring from 8" floppy to modern storage is challenging? --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "dd_62622" <dd_626@...> wrote:

great stuff. indeed, take good care of those disks. sounds great. amazing that they needed (2) IIx's to generate those fairly trivial sequences. today, Neil could have his iPhone CMI app knock them out in his coat pocket :-) David --- In Fairlight-CMI@yahoogroups.com, "dvdborn" <dvdborn@...> wrote:
