Hi Arron,

I can answer some of your questions about split racks but Peter is without doubt the man. Firstly, you wouldn't attempt this mod unless you were 100% sure about what you were doing.

If you look at Peter's system, there is a custom plate at the far left which appears to have the connector for the music keyboard, so you would need one of them, if you wanted to continue to use your music keyboard I guess.

(thats the midi interface, if you read his post you'll see he made it out of an MFX midi interface due to lack of original CMI components at the time, theres a seperate 9 pin keyboard input at the top right of the rack near the power indicators)

Next up : I guess you loose the ability to have your ever reliable 8 inch disk drive in the rack (at least I cant see where you would put it). Im not even sure where you would mount a hard disk ( I assume in one of the the two units that arnt the digital or analogue card cage.

( I never saw one of these with an 8" floppy installed...Doesn't PW do 3.5 in replacements? SCSI HD's would be external, 2 x SCSI interfaces at the rear of the card cage)

I dont recognise the cards to the right of the midi and sync cards on either unit : are these router cards ? Or something MFX specific ?

(This is an RT 1 Router card)

Just a quick note : in the first listing you say that the unit contains the original backplanes : the analogue card cage does not have enough physical slots to be an original (not even enough for the output cards).

(Well they're original to this system, it contains a CMI 335 board, there are 8 slots but only 6 are populated by hardware, it may be possible to add the missing hardware, but I'd be guessing, in a Series3, that board will likely be a CMI 331, so if anybody did a conversion, this MB would have to be swapped out, this would give you the additional channels. Just for the record, the digital card cage, is the same as a Series 3 (CMI 35) but a later revision)

any corrections are welcomed!
