cmios9 is open source now

cmios9 is open source now

2011-02-16 by kmi9000

Hi,

I have decided to release the latest version of cmios9 as an open source project under the GNU GPL. You can find my project "cmios9" on sourceforge.net. It can be compiled on various platforms (Win, cygwin, Darwin, Linux, ...).

cmios9 enables access to the following filesystems: OS9 RBF, MDR-DOS, QDOS. It also contains conversion utilities for the following file types in particular: VC, MT, SQ, TK.

I hope this will be a contribution to the preservation of the CMI architecture and to the ongoing development of CMI-based systems. I thought that an open source approach would be the most appropriate way (at least for my own programs). In particular, the GNU GPL warrants that any modifications and improvements of cmios9 and derived projects would imply this GPL again and would be a benefit for all of us.

I guess, cmios9 needs some code clean-up and a GUI. Please feel free to add or extract the features that you like (as long as it remains under the GNU GPL and, of course, I remain on the authors list). I am open for questions and suggestions (you can find my email address within the cmios9 distribution).

Source code of my other projects (for Synclavier, Linn9000, Akai samplers, Emulator II,...) are likely to follow soon.

Best regards,
Michael

Also many thanks from me on both this and the excellent KMI web site. I would be totally lost without this.

Very much appreciated : Arron

Hi Michael,

I just want to say thanks so much for your extremely valuable contributions to the CMI community. Your website has been an invaluable resource to many CMI users. There have been many occasions when you helped me when i was in real trouble with my own CMI system. I don't think there is anyone out there who understands the inner workings of the CMI series 3 more than yourself. Perhaps someone else can further develop the software now that you have made it open source. Is it possible that there could be further enhancements made to the CMI 2X QDOS software ? I hope all is well with you.

Regards,

James Thomson
