Questions about Harddisk controller Q079 and CMI Storage Upgrade
2008-09-10 by Peter Kersten
Here are some questions I'm stuck with: According to the Servicemanual, a IIx can use the Q-077 card. >Page 53, 4.11 Q077 Hard Disk Controller DMA Interface - Functional description >Page 181, 7.13 Slot 20: Harddisk controller Q077 Now my question is: Does the IIx need a special OS for this? I read somewhere that version 1.19 and 1.20 did support a harddisk, but I'm not sure of that. What would be the maximum size HD that could be used? What are the limiting factors? Number of files? Is a IIL just a IIx with Q077 card and an adapted OS? Who on this list is looking for an upgrade for the CMI in order to improve storage facilities? Who of this list is working on this subject and/or is capable to help out with this issue? Does anyone know if Alexander will get new floppies in future? (He's out of them and he's on vacation, so I can't get an answer from him at the moment). In mid nineties, there was a German person that could fit 3.5" floppiedrives, for 700 DM (350 Euros). Did anyone ever get that upgrade? Does anyone have more info on this upgrade? Regards, Peter Kersten.
