In fact, I have not tried to connect my SCSI ZIP and SCSI JAZ drives to
the series III, but would it work without any modification on a software
version 6.03 unit ?

Alas, unknown to me (yet), but it sounds like a timing problem with the
memory chips (which hold the wave data). It is unclear whether the problem
arises with ONLY the 2Mb cards or with ANY of the 2Mb card combined with
the 8 Mb cards. In the latter case, it definitely sounds like a timing
problem to me. Try running with only the 2Mb cards as a test. If there is
no problem, timing differences are most likely to be the cause.

Harald.
