After a hopeful reseating of a Q219, that'd be my first guess too: video ram, first, then the gizzards that surround it:)
- Currently enjoying the Ryiuchi Sakamoto "Neo Geo" vid from your dvdborn page, first heard him in his work with Roddy Frame (w/ Fairlight, I believe, on "Dreamland" and such (though not shown in this live vid w/someone else on keys:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX3y4UiQA18, and the two's "Same Dream, Same Destination":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYt-OxK3zCE
, but come to love the stuff he does on his own very much, especially ethereal, introspective stuff like:
(without Fairlight content)Rain:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tKfYwc4zxA
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mfyCI82lWM
Energy Flow:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btyhpyJTyXg

Apologies for digressing so.

Dying video RAM. It's possible it's also some of the glue logic
surrounding the video RAM, or the shifter, but the dynamic RAM is pretty
fragile.
