How do I transfer files from my PC to my Synth? Can I load the files on a floppy, or do I need a cable? Could someone please explain the process, and the meaning of the file extensions. What software do I need? My synth is a VFX-SD. I have some *.syx files that I would like to put on my synth. Sorry for the dumb questions, but I'm new to this. Any help much appreciated.

Hi,
I'm not sure that VFX-SD disk drive can read *.syx files... I think you're better to use your soundcard from your PC. You need for this a MIDI cable to connect your VFX to your PC. If you want, I can send you vi e-mail a little software (in a *.zip format) which permits to send SysEx files from your PC to your synth. Let jsut me know...
Best regards,
Karm

You can upload *.syx files using any sequencer like Cakewalk or Cubase. Sequencers have a utility (Cakewalk Sonar called Sysx View) that lets send files from PC to the synth. Try it's another option. Best regards, Fabio ----- Original Message -----

Thanks for the reply Fabio and Karm. It appears I need a midi interface cable. There's ones that plug into USB and ones that plug into the midi port on your soundcard. Are some better than others, or will any do? There also seems to be a lot of different versions of "Cakewalk". Is 'Cakewalk Pro audio 9" any good? Is Sonar better? What would you recommend? I would like to just download some sounds at the moment, but I might wannt to have a play later with some effects etc. Regards Allan --- In Ensoniq-VFX-SD@yahoogroups.com, "Fabio D. Allan, I work with a standard midi interface since 10 years ago. Never give me troublem. Now, I don't have experience with USB, so I can't tell you about them. Any sequencer that you said is OK. It's a matter of taste. Yes, there're some features that don't have some of them, but generally speaking, all of them are excelent options. Now it's on line for free Cubasis Inwired. I downloaded yesterday and will see how it works. Think of it too. Best regards, Fabio

If you only want to transfer SyxEx banks to your VFX-SD, no need for a sequencer program (Cubase or CakeWalk). There are many utilities that do the job: WinSysEx, FreeLoader... Check out www.hitsquad.com. Lots of freewares. For your info, I uploaded one floppy containing personal sound banks on the www.egroups.com / VFX, Files section. Use the EDE program to create the readable floppy from the imagefile, and tell me what you think about the patches !
