SD-1 patches welcome?

SD-1 patches welcome?

2000-08-04 by Suzanne Archibald

Would SD-1 patches be welcome in the SoundBank area ? I don't know
how compatible they are with the VFX-SD (I know the SD-1 can read VFX
patches just fine)

If so, I have a SD-1 version of the drone gated bass from Pink
Floyd's 'On the Run' I made, that I can post (though not til
tomorrow, because we've had storms here, and my 'studio' PC is shut
down until then..

Suzanne.

Ok, I uploaded it to the files area, the filename is 'OTR-Like.syx'.
It should work on any VFX (it only uses one waveform from the
Waveform group (I can't remember if I used sawtooth or square) all
the rest of the 'sound' is done via the filters and LFO.

The way to use the patch is to hold the lowest C on the keyboard and
vary the filtering with the mod wheel while holding higher notes (and
letting the voice glide to the second note), creating the sort of
doppler-like effect that Rick achieved, then letting go of the higher
note so that the glide slides back down to the original C.

There are probably ways to improve this patch, I haven't compared it
to the record of 'On the run' so its only an approximation from
memory, but it sounds close to me (I was amazed I could even get
that 'EMS' sound out of the SD1 :) Certainly beats buying a Kurzweil
K2000 just for the sound (since thats what Rick used for the drone
when he played it live in 94/95)
