Hi, since there are so many replies mentioning the 'calibration error' including a description how to fix it I think it's time to encourage all who love there VFX and suffer from the old problems. Believe me, it's simple to do as long as you can handle a screwdriver, a pince, and a soldering iron. I'll post a couple of pictures in the file section to show how it's done (a picture tells more than 1000 words...). Here are some remarks: 1. To open your VFX remove the 4 screws holding the cover and pull it open (figure 1). Use an inbus key 2.5mm which you get in every hardware store for low money. Otherwise you'll damage the screws. I got no pictures for step 2-4. This is really a piece of cake. 2. Remove the 10 srews at the bottom holding the keyboard. The first (front) row of srews need not to be removed. they don't hold the keyboard. 3. To remove the keyboard lift it at the front and pull it out (toward yourself). 4. Unplug the cable connection at the keyboard side (it happened to me once that the cable connector was damaged. The VFX then would say 'cannot calibrate...'). 5. Now you have the keyboard in hands. Place it on the table and remove the middle octave of keys, the one limited by the two small tin sheets (well, it's a good idea to remove ALL keys in order to get rid of the dust from centuries\ufffd; if you do it it's easier to do it octave by octave replacing the first twelve ones before removing the next). The steps are: - start with the leftmost key (C) of the octave - remove the springs as shown in figure 2 - unhook the keys with a screwdriver, move the grip away from you while lifting the key with the other hand (figure 3) - always remove a black and a white key together (figure 4) You will realize that it's a good idea to clean everything out. To reassemble the keyboard follow the reverse order inserting the keys from left to right. 6. When you turn the keyboard upside down you will see the buggy connector in the middle octave (figure 5). 7. Solder in 12 wire connections as shown in figure 6. There is no need to remove the connectors so you need not to disassemble the whole keyboard! 8. Clean everything and reassemble your VFX. Don't forget to plug in the keyboard connector: red wire at pin 1. Have fun with the greatest of electronic synthesizers! Hans Maybe I won't post the figures before this evening since it's being VERY hot outside and I've to go swimming now... -----Original Message----- From: genesis_midi [mailto:genesis_midi@...] Sent: Sonntag, 10. I think I damage the vfx with it. I guess there is no ensoniq support for the vfx? not a centre where I can let them fix the error (for free?) since I also can't find a proper screwdriver to open it up :S have to search for a proper one :( but ok that's not the main problem. Gonna have a look at it this afternoon I hope. Thnx for the reply. To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: Ensoniq-VFX-SD-unsubscribe@egroups.com Your use of Yahoo!
