Interesting. But if it's not so much about having thousands of sounds 
available in real time you might remember this page:
http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/
which solves the unfamous 'my floppy drive died and I cannot find a 
Shugart drive' problem and provides plenty space for sounds.
