A112

A112

2003-02-20 by code_pig <code_pig@yahoo.com>

Have any other A112 owners noticed that the tuning pot is EXTREMELY
sensitive? At a setting of 4, the very slightest touch knocks mine
out of tune by approx. a semitone, which is especially noticable when
trying to use it as a wavetable oscillator.

Thanks,
Kevin

I received an answer to the question (thank you Dieter). The problem
seemed to stem from a combination of the A112 and the A190. Both are
adjusted correctly now, and I'm enjoying 8 bit grind and terror.

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Mine is same but I can't check it at the moment as it's patched up
for a song which seems to be taking me too long to write.
Any chance you could post dieter's reply so I can understand whats
going on?

Thanks
John.

John,

Here it is (via Doug Wagner, so thanks should go to him as well):

Reply from Dieter regarding the 112.

The pitch resolution of the A-112 is 1/4 semitone and the whole pitch
range is 5 octaves (see A-112 information on our web site or the A-
112 manual). Consequently the 270 degree rotation of the pitch knob
is divided into 4x12x5 = 240 steps (4 semitones per octave, each
octave has 12 tones). This means that 1/240 of the rotation angle -
which is very small - will cause a pitch change of 1/4 semitone. If
the customer wants a more sensitive tune control the resistor R2 (is
now 100k) could be changed (e.g. 200k will result in half the
sensitivity). But then the range covered by the tune control will be
smaller.

If both A-190 and A-112 are adjusted correctly no problems should
occur. For the A-190 the adjustment is made as described in the
manual. For the A-112 the trimming potentiometer P3 is used to adjust
the scale.
