Regelwerk issues

Regelwerk issues

2016-09-22 by endif.org@gmail.com

I have a Regelwerk that does not boot fully.

- PSU = 9v DC, correct polarity (- out, + in, same iconography) 1a (500ma required)

- Nothing plugged in but the PSU, so no chance of loops or external influence.

- Boots as far as displaying the OS Screen:

"Regelwerk V.171

Doepfer (c) 300799"

- Boot process ends there, and the (blue) LEDs flash in unison at apparent random intervals. No discernible pattern.

- Using the Factory Reset process from the manual found in the link below changes nothing.

FAQ in english

I have photos, serial number, and videos if useful.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Hello,

the ser.no. tells me that the unit has been manufactured in 1999. If the
battery has never been changed I'm quite sure that it is defective and has
to be replaced.
Details on the FAQ page of our website:

www.doepfer.com > English > FAQ > General > Lifespan of rechargeable
batteries (used for memory backup)

If it's not the battery please contact Christian Assall
(software@doepfer.de). He's the Regelwerk specialist. But he is still on
holiday for 2 weeks.

Best wishes
Dieter Doepfer

some years back i had the same exact thing start happening with my (also blue) Regelwerk, and Dieter is right: it was the battery! opened the unit, desoldered the old one, installed a brand new one (standard 3.6v type) and it's been going gangbusters since!

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

I'm having trouble sourcing a replacement Z3A65 battery I've removed from the main board of my Regelwerk.

What are the specs I should be looking for in a replacement?

that's not it. i am sorry i can't remember or find the exact part number, but it's shorter, with a 3-pin mount. go ahead and open up your Regelwerk and take a look, there should be a part number on the battery you can match. wish i could be more help! :-)

I just read the second reply, with the 3.6v detail. Would this one suffice?

and apologies again! (it's late here ^_^ ) - just saw your other message - yes it's whatever the current version of the Z3A65 is. i was able to find a replacement here in the us, but as i said that was some years back. maybe Dieter knows where to find some?

Did you try going to the FAQ link suggested earlier? It has an image of the type of battery needed, along with a few working links like reichelt. I have also found something that is almost identical on eBay by looking for 3.6 ni-cd

I say almost identical. I've just noticed it's got 3 pins not 2. Reichelt actually has the 3 pin in stock. If you have anything else a bit old it might be worth checking. Actually these batteries are notoriously an old synth destroyer. Cheetah ms6 (an oberheim matrix 6 clone) and the teisco/kawai sx240 (analog DCO poly) are often found with corroded boards as these batteries have leaked.

haa!!! Cheetah ms6 and Kawai SX240... getting flashbacks to reading Keyboard magazine in the '80s! ;-)
but seriously (and relevant) - that is exactly what happened with my Regelwerk! it started going weird, figured it was the battery, opened it up, and lo and behold one of the battery contacts had corroded!! *most* fortunately the corrosion was only on the battery and hadn't migrated to the board yet, so replacing it was simple.

Please look at the FAQ page mentioned in my last email. Here you find some
links to suppliers (Reichelt, Mouser, Newark).

Best wishes
