Ah, yeah, hehheh. I'd act insulted at your "insensitivity", but by and
large you're right. Then again, I think the majority of its failings
are in the truly horrible one-slider interface. It does have a
distinctively creamy Roland sound. As I say this it makes me want to
plug it in and listen to the "Soundtrack" patch.

That said, I use it purely as a MIDI controller for the Doepfer, and
rarely that. I haven't had its audio outs hooked up in several years,
and I've had it since the mid-80s. If I want a polysynth, I use my A6.

Thanks for giving the photos section a try!

hi again,.
i uploaded one of your pictures to the photos
section!i don't see any problem with the photo
uploading....
by the way,i had my jx8p with a pg800 programmer but
i,still,didn't like it's sound.as you describe it,it
was very "creamy".........but not bad for pads.
of course,the A6 will be much,much better...right?
bakis.

Ah Yes, the famous patch. this would have to be the one preset that i
have used the most out of all the roland presets. it is a continual
starting point for pads, with the help of the pg300, i can whip up
new textures faster than can i write a sentence. to give it a little
more sparkle, i recommend a little distortion followed by phase
shifting and delay (analog of course).

another trick of mine is to use the MAQ to get ethereal pad movements.
here is the recipe.

1)use the same midi channel for all 3 rows into the jx8p
2)set the 3rd row to 15steps
3)set the prescale/time to a division lower than the midiclock to get
whole notes
4)set the note clusters you want
5)add a little delay to jx (preferably tempo synched to a different
division)

the third row creates a different set of polyrhythmic clusters every
16 notes or you can have row 3 going in random mode. there are many
possibilities you can have, just try different combinations.

that said, you can use the above method with 3 separate A100 voices
as well.

damn, i just turned on my JX8p. :)

thanks for bringing it up, it has been a while since i have used it.
