A117 - lowest rate?

A117 - lowest rate?

2014-10-30 by David Kellett

Hi,

I'm wondering what the lowest rate for the A117 is? If using it as a random clock approximately what range would you get at the lowest settings?

The range of the internal clock oscillator is about 100Hz ... 100kHz. But if you use an external clock it can be as slow as you
want.

You may also modify the internal oscillator by increasing the value of the frequency capacitor of the oscillator. That's C1 at the
top edge of the pcb. The factory value is 10nF. If you solder e.g. 100nF in parallel to C1 the frequency range is divided by 10
(10Hz ... 10kHz), if 1uF is used the frequency range is divided by 100 (1Hz ... 1kHz) and so on.

Another random clock source is the A-149-2.

Best wishes

Thanks Dieter - that was the information I needed :-) I will be buying a couple of A149-2s in the next couple of weeks and think they will supply my random, slowish clocks but I like the idea of the A117 pinging a filter to make drip sounds too - so I will prob get one for that sort of use too.

I'm listening to the first proper recording I have made of my A100 based system at the moment and I'm quite proud :-) It is not quite random enough yet - I'm really interested in Aleatoric Music but I need some more modules to fully realize what I want. For this recording I had to record several overdubs to create what I wanted but I'm hoping that in the next couple of weeks my Monstercase will turn up in the UK and then I'll order several other bits from EMIS and be able to make some more experiments towards making lengthy Aleatoric / self Generating music.
