Doepfer DIY kit #1

Doepfer DIY kit #1

2014-03-15 by Tonko Sekulo

Hi all, I have a question about Doepfer DIY kit #1 power supply. I made quite shallow 6U 84HP case and I want to use it with mentioned PSU. The heat sink part of the PSU would be mounted inside the case while the transformer part would be outside the case.

My question is how hot does the heatsink get? It would be only 1-2 cm from the nearest pcb board of the module, is this too near? The case is meant for travelling so it's completly closed. I would be using around 600 mA on the positive rail and around 200mA on the negative.

Also the case is made out of wood but the bottom part is made from aluminium. Is it okay to mount the psu to the aluminium bottom of the case and put a screw connected with ground cable like it is done in my G6 cases?

Sorry if some of these are silly questions, it's my first DIY venture and I am afraid of doing something wrong.

If only 600+200mA are requried I'd expect only a small heating of the heat
sinks. I suppose that the heat sink temperature will not go beyond 35-40
degrees Celsius. From our experience only with the full load the the heat
sink temperature may reach 50-60 degrees Celsius.

Best wishes
