Doepfer DIY Synth

Doepfer DIY Synth

2012-10-26 by Anthony

Having jumped in at the deep end and purchased a DIY Synth I have been busy trying to get my head around the connection of same. I spent 30+ years in the telephone industry most of it when the equipment was electro-mechanical so never realy got into electronics. Now being retired I have started to try and catch up with my education.
To cut to the chase I have mapped out all of my controls i.e. Pots Sockets switches etc. but having studied the diagram on page 19 of the users guide I cannot make out if I should be connecting +or-12v or +or-5v to the following potentiometers:- VCO Tune, VCO Fine, VCO PW, VCF Frequency and VCA init Gain. I read in the notes that the range of VCO PW CV1 is shown as 0---+5v but it says the same for VCO PW CV2 which goes to PWM and this does not have a voltage connection. Am I reading the diagram wrongly or am I right in thinking (I don't why) it is +12v.
If some kind person could put me right and stop me blowing the board I would be truly grateful.

Anthony - Page 21 looks like +12 is okay, but +5 recommended for the
tuning ones for stability.

This the same version of the manual you are looking
at? [1]http://www.doepfer.de/pdf/DIY_Synth_Manual.pdf

cheers, J.

Hi Jim, thanks for that, it is the same manual and I have to admit I hadn't read page 21 with any real care. I've only had this thing for 24hrs.
Had a quick look at your Voodoo---- , Didn't understand a word but it looked impressive. I'll get up to speed somehow, my Son is 17 and loves modular synths so here's hoping he can learn quicker than his aging Dad.
Cheers.
Tony
