Problem with A-190-2 Midi-to-CV/Gate...

Problem with A-190-2 Midi-to-CV/Gate...

2012-07-29 by Aris

I've had this module about 2 months, and it's been working fine until today. When I press a key on my midi keyboard controller, the LED lights up, and the CV pitch changes....but there is a consistent ~5V at the gate jack. It doesn't drop to zero when I release the key....it stays consistent at around 5V. All other jacks are working normally when the appropriate midi controller function is activated.

Anything I can do for a DIY repair? Thanks for your help

It reminds me how i burnt my MCV-4 applying reverse current to Gate out. (tried to use standard Gate mode with S-Trig synth)

Probably the gate transistor is defective. This may happen if the A-190-2 or
even another module on the same bus is installed in the wrong. The problem
should be solved by replacing the transistor (BC547) behind the learn
button. Any npn transistor with the same pin-out as the BC547 should work.

We are about to change the design of the A-190-1/2/3 because this happened
several times in the past because of reverse installed modules.

Best wishes

Hi

I plan to buy a A-190-2 in the near future - any idea when the revised version will be available?

Kind regards

We expect the fist batch of the revised version of the A-190-2 about
September 2012. The only difference is a 100 Ohm protection resistor in the
gate output. But you should always pay attention to install all modules in
the right way. Even the protection resistor of the A-190-1/2/3 will not
prevent damages if a module is installed in the wrong way. It protects only
the Gate output of the (correct installed) A-190-1/2/3 module if another
module on the same bus is installed in the wrong way. It does not prevent
the damage of the other module !

Best wishes
