It is quite easy to patch up a compressor with some Doepfer modules.
A VCA, a voltage inverter and a slew limiter should put you on the way...

The problem is of course that most Envelope followers are just not fast enough to be used in a compressor - an accurate compressor anyway. The RMS detectors in compressors are the main thing that characterizes one form another and typically they are the parts that are encapsulated to slow down their copying. You can still make a compressor with a Envelope follower but I am sure you will always here it "breathe".

You are right there James, but I mainly used this application to temper the
feedback in feedback patches..

But I am still not too thrilled by the idea of a compressor module. Then
rather a better/more accurate Envelope Follower!
