clocking issue

clocking issue

2012-02-07 by istari

hi everyone

this is what i am still (and others) seems to have problems:

when using a midi capable sequencer like the dark time or the mfb
urzwerg as a bridge
from midi clock to other analogsequencers it happens that these
sequencers send out
96 step clocks ( 24 a quarter note ) out to the modular. this means
that the other sequenzers
at the modular getting really fast clocking as they expect something
like 16 clocks.

usally i use then one of these sequencer channels just to send a 8
step gate signal, but with this
i loose one sequence.

my question is: are there any conferter tool that difides a 96 clock
to 16 clock? with a simple clock
difider this is not possible because of the triplets in the 96 clock.
so the difider is something
like divided by 3 and then divided by 2.

cool would be if the dark time would be switchable of selecting 96
clock or 16 clock output on the analog sync.

maybe someone knows a solution.

cheers
felix

Yes, that would be good. An output division factor for the DT while it
is MIDI-synced would be on my wishlist too.

hi florian

or just a simple euro module. with just straight clock 96 divider to 16 clock.

some of the mfb sequencer have the ability to change between 96 clock
and 16 clock but then we loose any ability for shuffles inside the
machine.
i was thinking of change my mfb with a dark time but then i
recognized it has also this issue with the analog 96 clock output.

The MSY2 can be used to divide the Midi clock (96 clocks per measure) by any
integer value. That way the clock output of the MSY2 can be 96 (same as Midi
or Roland DIN Sync), but also 32 (divide by 3) or 16 (divide by 6) or 8
(divide by 12). We have kind of a modular version of the MSY2 in the holding
pattern (with simultaneous outputs for the most important factors like 96,
32, 16 and 8). But I have no idea when it will be available as there are
some other projects with higher priority (e.g. Dark Energy redesign,
A-192-1, A-190-5, A-157).

As far as I know the Dark Time can output a clock signal that is e.g. 16
clocks per measure. Please ask Christian (software@doepfer.de) to be sure.
The firmware of the Dark Time is improved continuously and I don't know the
detailed current state.

Best wishes

Hi Dieter

thanks, the MSY2 is the thing i am looking for. the euro version
would be also fine, because then
someone could grab out the 32th notes before all dividers. something
i also wondered to have.

best
felix
