Dear gang,

I just saw this on the Serge list; maybe it'll work here...

Dear Sergemaniacs:

Good new and bad news in the world of SMOG.

First, the good news: the 2002 Serge Musicians Tape CD has
been
compiled, mastered, and is currently undergoing critical review.
10
tracks of Serge. After approval the master will be certified and we
will then work on the transferal of the original 1982 cassette tape
to
digital media. Of course, this project has taken longer than
anticipated (all my fault), but should be worth the wait.

Next, the bad news: spammers have been joining this list at an
alarming rate (one per day for a week; two today!) As your
moderator,
I receive a message when a new "member" joins the list. They
are
betrayed by their addy, which is always a yahoo! account and
their
name is always something abstractly nonsensical, like the latest
cretin: dvfuxnkvzhhz@y... When these "people" join, I have to
physically remove then, then ban them. As this takes too much
time, I
have changed the membership process, whereby new
members must first
ask to be on the list. Obviously this doens't affect any of you at
this time, but it might should you unsub and rejoin.

Its nice to have a simply "everyone's welcome" list, but this has
gone
to far.

hi andrew,
i'm already doing this for many weeks...(restricted
membership).
now, that i'm sure that all these "people" have names
with letters in random order,i'll deny their
membership when i see their request for approval...
i've already done that in a new "random letters"
username,some days ago.
bakis.
