Hi all! I have come around this concept many times now, so maybe it's time to ask... Can anyone explain what a feedback loop is? Best regards, David

its when the output of a processed signal is 'fed-back' to any of the modules that make the chain which created the initial signal. or even when the output of a sound generating module (for example a vco) is fed-back to an input of the very same module and this input affects the output of the said module (for example its exponential or linear frequency cv input). There's a whole musical genre devoted to this kind of thing. Look here: http://chondriticsound.com/ ________________________________

Actually most of the filters we use in our synths use feedback for the resonance. I have a small video up that uses this concept on a Doepfer a128 filterback: a module that does not have resonance. But you can actually do it by patching a bit creatively! http://vimeo.com/2968476 Greetz Ernst On Mon, Nov 8, 2010 at 3:34 PM, york luethje <ybl@yahoo.com> wrote: > > > There's a whole musical genre devoted to this kind of thing. Im going to get a bit off topic here, but the Harvestman Stilton adapter inspired me, I eventually found an oz audio headphone mixer that is a 4 in 6 out matrix mixer. I now use it with several multi effects at a time to get resonant type effects. the matrix mixer looks like this http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/product/cd639ffb56c37b086916929179f0afd9.jpg and as a bonus it has an effects loop, solid mixer too. Hi, A quick Googling brought that Mackie bought OZ-Audio and distributed the mixer as HMX-56. But it seems to be discontinued. http://www.mackie.com/products/hmx56/index.html Best, Julien Le 9 nov. 2010 11:03, andy butler a crit : > Any chance of a link to the product? > > dustin sedlacek wrote: > > > the matrix mixer looks like this > > > > http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/shop_image/product/cd639ffb56c37b086916929179f0afd9.jpg > > > > and as a bonus it has an effects loop, solid mixer too. > > > > > > On Mon, Nov 8, 2010 at 12:12 PM, Bakis Sirros <synth_freak_2000@yahoo.com>wrote: > > > >> > >> thanks Ernst for another nice example of a feedback loop application. > >> > >> > >> Bakis Sirros - Parallel Worlds / Interconnected / Memory Geist > >> > >> [Doepfer_a100] group owner > >> > >> www. parallel - worlds - music. com > >> > >> www. myspace. com/ parallelworldsmusic > >> > >> www. myspace. com/ interconnectedmusic > >> > >> www. myspace. com/ memorygeist > >> > >> www. Yes. I am disappointed as well. It looks like a handy device. Maybe worth asking Mackie if there are still some in stokcs ? Or eBay... It's hard/impossible to find a small line level mixer with complex routing capabilities. The question, for any who care to answer, is what would be your ideal small mixer? (for feedback, or just for routing in a complex music making rig) Number of channels...into how many? Added fx loop? Mono/stereo? Anything else? andy butler

but let's keep the conversation focused in modular (and Doepfer A100 related) items, ok? thanks, Bakis. Took me a few months but I eventually tracked one down. You can also look for the sure auxpander they are very similar. The harvestman set up would be great with some VCAs to control the feedback, that just sounds like a dream. On Tue, Nov 9, 2010 at 6:36 AM, Julien Rabin <julien.rabin@gmail.com> wrote: > Yes. the a189-1 bit modifier in mode 4, 10 or 11 can be used as a strange signal source by patching a feedback loop. feed the output of the a189/1 into a multiple and from there into the signal input of the a189/1. make sure the a189/1 is in mode 4, 10 or 11. other modes won't work that way, anyway nothing will get damaged if you try. take the audio from the multiple. the sample rate knob now acts as pitch offset, the sr cv input can be used as some kind of pitch cv input (don't ask for vco accuracy here). the bc knob and the bc cv input alter the sound. it is a good starting point to set both bc and sr knobs to noon. some settings will cause the audio to disappear, but there are also some sweet spots. in mode 10 and 11 i got almost vowel-like sounds. best wishes ingo
