mounting rails

hello all,
i'm in the process of creating a custom a100 frame
and am trying to find the appropriate mounting rails --
on the doepfer site, it says that:

The metal parts of the standard frames used in the A-100 are manufactured by the German companies ProMA (www.proma-technologie.de) or Gie-Tec (www.gie-tec.de). If you want to built your own frames or need additional accessories you may order directly from ProMa or from an electronic shop (e.g. Conrad, Reichelt, Buerklin in Germany, or Mouser in USA). 

but i'm not having any luck finding them at mouser (i'm in the usa)
perhaps i'm just not searching using the correct terminology?

if anyone could help point me towards where i could get some mounting rails 
(just the rails themselves, and preferably in the us), i'd appreciate it immensely!

Unfortunately, you have a very difficult task trying to find those rails. I have contacted both german companies several times and I have received no reply.
 
Due to the fact that we have to adapt these great machines to our, sometimes very small spaces, it would be great to have those rails included in the Doepfer product portfolio. This will help quite a lot if we want to change the dimension and destribution of the modules in our DIY cabinets.

Well that has squashed my solution

eBay / Computers / servers or routers sometimes have 3u chassis cheep just strip them down and use the bits you require

Hi,

I believe the TipTop Audio rails are suitable too. You can get them from AnalogueHaven I think.

Over at the MUFF Forum there is a thread about making DIY racks with an IKEA shelf and those rails.

We will think about adding the rails to our product portfolio. We obtain the
ready built cases with bus boards and power supply from our production
company who orders the parts in turn from ProMa/Gie-Tec. So we don't have
these parts in stock. Our business policy was to offer ready made products
only (i.e. modules, cases or stand alone products). But starting with the
A-100 DIY kits and the new DIY SYNTH this is no longer applies 100%. I
understand that it's hard to get some special parts like the rails and I
will see if it's possible to offer at least the rails in the future (but one
length only, probably the standard length 84 HP = 84*5.08 = 427 mm). But we
will not be able to offer all mechanical parts required to built a case  but
only the rails and the special screws required to mount the rails.

bigcitymusic.com sells rails here in the us and analoghaven.com probably does as well. you can get vector rails from mouser as well with sliding nuts. 

the rails are not so difficult to get as mentioned actually, I've bought lots of little euro rack parts from different suppliers, and many sources for various items are known.   easiest are the sites above.

I recommend the modularworld parts from bigcitymusic as they offer tapped strips to screw the modules in to with standard M3 screws. others may as well, I am just speaking for experience. I'm working with some 104hp rails right now (which mouser sells I'm fairly sure) and adapting some different sections of 84hp tapped strips for module mounting. 

it gets complicated unless you buy straight from one of the 2 sites I've listed above. have a chat with either Roger from bigcity or Shawn from analoghaven and either one of them will sort you out with whatever you need.

Thanks everyone for all the info!
I think I've decided to go with the Vector rails, 
actually already have some of them & the square nuts here now


The only problem I'm noticing is that the square nuts 
are not made for the same size screws as the standard Doepfer screws --
they're actually considerably smaller.

(I got the 2-56s listed on the Microfasteners link, not the 4-40s, 
which I don't think would fit in the rails?)

I guess I could just pick up the smaller screws & some washers 
to adapt them to the standard hole size of the Doepfer modules,
but I guess I'm also a little concerned that they wouldn't be sturdy enough,
as I think they would have to be pretty tiny screws.

Anybody had any experiences with using these?
