hi list,
after playing with my new ems vcs3(mk1-1969) synthi, i
realised for the first time how a spring reverb
sounds...very good!!!these lo-fi dreamy sounds of the
70's that i heard in all the early TD and klaus
shculze albums must have been created with the help of
the spring reverb effect...so,my next order will
include an A199 spring reverb...i was wondering...can
the problem with the a199 hum be fixed with just
patching an a131 between the a199 and the modular
output??is this hum so annoying that can prevent you
from mounting the a199 inside the a100 frame??the
spring reverb of the vcs3 also seems to output a noise
sound when the MIX knob and the LEVEL knob are near
position 8-10...is this hum from the a199 something
like this???(if it is,i like it!!!).i want to mount
the a199 inside my a100 frame...will i have acceptable
hum/noise level if i do this??

I suspect duffnuff's experience with the spring unit is fairly
typical. When I had less modules in my second 6U case I tried moving
it around inside by hand to see if there was any position where the
hum would be acceptable, but in the end I concluded there wasn't. I
now have it sat loose on the top of the case, but there seems to be
only one particular position where the hum is not too bad. If I move
it in any direction by more than a few inches, or twist it around, the
hum makes itself known! I don't find this any real problem, but it is
not as convenient as having it permanently screwed down somewhere
where no harm can come to it (i.e. like knocking it off the case...).

The solution would be a toroidal transformer for the power supply of the
A-100
