A BBD based delay doesn't seem like a good idea because the chips are scarce and there are already other VC BBD delays. > B.) Digital memory based delay, A/D-converter has a constant clock: This is, as you point out not so desirable because it simply trims the end of an echo off as you change the delay time which in my opinion isn't desirable for a voltage controlled delay. > C.) digital memory based delay, one clock for ecerything (A/D, memory > reading, and D/A). I vote for this option. It means that changes in delay time also result in changes in pitch which allows for lots of nice effects in a voltage controlled module. A digital module should also allow for infinite looping and other features of some of the simpler looping delay pedals. I don't know of any well-featured digital delay modules with CV controls so I think this would be a pretty unique and useful module. I don't see any reason why one module couldn't range from short Karplus Strong style tunable delay times (possibly quantized?) up to long, infinite looping delays (preferably with a sound-on-sound feature). Perhaps a range or mode switch could toggle between these two functions.
