just a quick question that doesn't really require an answer i suppose :-)
(and multitudinous apologies if i'm being senile and asked this before and am just forgetting... i think i might have a while back... hrm, gettin' old i suppose... is today a... uh, what day is it?...)
why was the Dark Energy set up to only have a midi note range of C2-C7? was that a limitation of the original v1 Curtis-chip-based design, or a general firmware decision (which means i should probably ask Matthias or Christian instead of Dieter)? a requirement of the usb protocol? problems with accurate pitch tracking that low? or "just because"?
i have both a v1 & v2, and having an extra midi octave down (C1-C2) would be a help - especially with the v1, which i'm sequencing from the cv out of a TT-303 clone, and even with the DE1 oscillator set to -1 it's still an octave up from the 303 (and using the 303 front panel transpose also transposes the DE). i could do some kind of extra-convoluted stuff with midi proccessing or a cv offset module, but i'm trying to keep things simple (heh...). the 303 clone doesn't do incoming midi note transpose but the DE does of course, so being able to transpose from a keyboard but still have it in the same octave as the 303 would be a plus. but hey, arbitrary limitations are good for creativity!
i was just curious if there was a specific technical reason.
and again my sincere apologies if i asked this before already... i tried sifting through the group archive to see, but didn't find anything.
but i kinda think i did... it really seems familiar... gotta start taking notes... or maybe printing out some choice answers from the group...
