You can always use the delay time to calculate the VCO frequency acurately ..but In general, the properties of the delay will tell you if the VCO freq is as it should be. Too fast(v.short delay)>>>>output drops Too slow>>>>>quality suffers As you're not in a factory and have plenty of time to set up the delay for the sound you like best it's not necessary to measure the clock frequency explicitly.
