A gate IS a trigger. In fact: a gate is two triggers: a positive trigger 
at the start and a negative trigger at the end.

@Jim: my DT is packed away in the live racks, which I don't have here. 
But I think a transition from 0V to 5V at the reset input should not 
stop the sequence. Does the sequence stop, when you press the 
"reset"-button on the DT?
