difference between MIS cleaning fluid and base fluid?

difference between MIS cleaning fluid and base fluid?

2008-06-14 by Paul Whiting

I'm getting set up to use Paul's 3MK approach with my R1800 and noted
that MIS recommends first using cleaning fluid in those three
positions to clear ink from the lines. Should I use MIS-Fluid-4 or
ESC-BASE-4-UC?

Right now I'm using MIS-Fluid-4 in the color positions of my R220
where I do BO printing. It's a lot cheaper to keep the color carts
filled with that fluid and besides I think it helps keep my printer
clean every time I power up.

So I already have that fluid on hand... I was thinking of moving three
of those carts (changing chips of course) over to the R1800 for the
flushing operation. Or - should I be using the ESC-BASE-4-UC, which I
understand is more concentrated that the MIS-Fluid-4.

Finally, how does one go about "flushing"? Exactly what do I do after
I get those carts in place? Run a nozzle check? a purge? how many times?

I seem to remember from somewhere that MIS cleaning fluid is a 50:50
mix of water and UC base. Anyway that's what I'm using in the unused
channel of my 7600 and it works like a charm. Works great for getting
rid of clogs too by the way.
To flush, something like QTR that lets you set up which channel is
firing makes it very easy. Set up an appropriate profile and print
enough to ensure that all ink is gone from those channel.

Thanks, Dario,

I'm still very new at this, and have installed QTR but don't know how
to use it yet. Guess I don't know what "appropriate profile" is. Isn't
there a different profile for each paper?

a newbie,

Paul

In the File section of the QTR group you'll find an excellent user
guide prepared by Tom Moore. It's an easy read and will give you enough
know-how to get going with profile creation.

Ink set confusion

2008-06-17 by Ken Alexander

I inherited an Epson 7600 that has been using the UT7
ink set. I want to change it over to use the MIS
Eboni-6 inks, and asked here for some advice on how to
clean out the old inks in preparation for the
changeover. By the way, thank you for the replies.

Anyway, upon telling this to the previous owner he
asked "why bother?" He says that except for the ink
in the PK slot, the UT7 and Eboni-6 ink sets are
identical.

Now I'm confused. Is this true? If so, can I top up
cartridges partly filled with UT7 ink with the new
Eboni-6 equivalent without any flushing or cleaning?

Thanks in advance!

Ken

No way.

UT7 is a glossy-compatible, variable-tone inkset that uses blended
carbon-color pigments for most of its midtone positions. Only the
UT7 C, LC and K (Eboni) positions are 100% carbon pigments, and the C
and LC are not Eboni dilutions. They are much warmer than the Eboni-
6 midtone inks. The Eboni (K) is the same -- nothing more.

Do clean out those non-Eboni ink lines.

Thanks, Dario,

I've joined the group.. didn't even know there was such a group. I've
looked in the file section but not sure which one you mean. Can you
tell me which one you're referring to?

Thanks!
