BW Inkset for Epson 2100 - which one?

BW Inkset for Epson 2100 - which one?

2007-01-03 by Bernie Ess

Hello,
after a while where I have mainly sent my prints to a printshop I
would like to reactivate my 2100 that I now use with UC original inks.
I will continue to make my color prints at the print shop, but I dont
like the look of their papers for b&w, so I would like to do them on
my own.

After quite a few issues with my old CFS (UT7 inks) I would consider
refill carts. I do not print very much - only a moderate amount of
printing.

Question is: What current inkset gives the best overall performance on
a wide choice of papers, mostly fineart sometimes maybe luster and
glossy papers?

I consider UT-3d, or another MIS inkset, but which one? The prints I
currently do with the original Epson inks with Bowhaus OPM or
Harrington QTR are neutral, but I dont like the dmax - deep blacks
seem almost impossible to achieve on matte papers...

I would be glad about any useful input,

thanks in advance,

Bernhard

Bernhard,

See what I'm using on my 2200 at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/4K+.pdf

I've put links to some of my notes on my index at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/index.htm

As to dmax, I'm getting as high as any I've seen from other systems on matte
papers. Be sure to use QTR at 2880.

Paul

Thank you Paul for your answer, I will have to study it a bit more,
but I am not sure if this is not a bit too complicated.
I don't have the energy and time to mix inks out of base and pigments
etc. I also need ready curves and profiles, having to do one's own
profiles is a whole world to dive into.

But as I said, I only read once through your instructions, I will have
to read again.

regards, Bernhard

I forgot....

Do you use your 4K inkset with refillable carts in the 2200 - and if
yes which ones? MIS?

Thank you,

Bernhard

MIS (& Epson if you go with that option) have all you need pre-mixed. If
MIS does not have the LLC mixed, they will if you ask them.

I have not had time to do much there.

Yes.

Yes, all are from MIS.

There are other inkset options for the 2100. I have profiles for the UT-3D
inkset on the 2200 at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT-3D_Downloads.html .
For more information on that inkset, see
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT-3D_Readme.pdf . That inkset can also be
profiled with the ColorVision Print Fix Pro. And, there is the UT7 inkset
-- see http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT-2200-Readme.htm

And there are not doubt other options.

Ok, thank you very much for your information, Paul its very much
appreciated, I looked at everything again, and the fact that there is
a MIS supplier now in Germany I can get through him almost everything
except the blended mix tones thaz I may order directly.

I will have another look at the UT-3d, but the fact that the 4K+ set
has both photo and matte black at the same time is quite practical, so
I guess I will give it a try.

Thank you again,

Bernhard
