I often use this action--and the nice thing about it is that it leaves many
options to change/tweak---color fill, curves, levels, etc. I sometimes
insert one of a series of saved curves I found elsewhere---change the color
fill, dodge/burn on the overlay layer. There's much to be said for this
nice action. There is also a free action based on this you can find here
http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm Scroll down to the b/w conversion
section--choose the Gorman action---and you might find others you might
like to try here.

There is also Fred Miranda's b/w conversion on his site, Virtual
PHotographer/OptikVerve labs has a free plugin that's very nice--color and
black and white and you can set it up yourself--only 8 bit though.

it is listed under learning, November 2004. Once you put it in CS2 under an
action, it works
fine. Go throught the steps and see if it works for you. I tried a few
methods and finally
settled on this one.
