I actually have this "carbon yellow" in a 2400 (along with MIS's two grays,
instead of Epson's as well, ler Paul's suggesting). I installed it to test how
it profiles with PrintFIX PRO 2.0, and the answer is that it offers slight
improvements in B&W printing, and should reduce metamerism a bit in the process,
since it will remove any yellow thats in the neutral prints, or in nonneutral
prints for that matter. This combo won't necessarily print tints that lean
towards yellow, but for the 'cool to neutral to carbon' range its quite lovely.
And its pleasing to me that it works with PFP2 profiles, since most specialty
black and white solutions do not (that is, other than being able to use our
spectro and measuring software for generating linearization or curve data.)

The other interesting thing about this combination, is that you can swap the
yellow cart back to Epson Yellow (or MIS K4 Yellow, I assume) and get full
color printing as well. You just have to profile each of the two "states" of the
device for each paper you will be using, and swap carts as necessary. This
would not be as fast in larger cart systems where there are lines to be purged,
but its slick in the 2400.

CD,

Is PrintFIX PRO 2.0 available yet? I don't see it on the Colorvision site.

Thanks,

Tom

Not released to the public, but there is a beta available, were you
interested in beta testing? If so, send me your name, shipping address, phone number,
and email address, and I'll add you to the list. Assuming you already own
PrintFIX PRO, that is...

Thanks CD,

No I don't own PrintFIX Pro. When will 2.0 be released? What will it cost?

Thanks,

Tom

Then beta testing would not be practical for you.

In a few weeks, it all depends on finalizing things that aren't finalized
yet, so its tough to tell.

Nothing, to existing PrintFIX PRO owners (its a free software upgrade). Same
as PrintFIX PRO 1, for anyone else: street price is currently about $499US.

I'd like to learn how to use PFP2 and the spectro for linearization and
curve creation.
Where can I find the tutorial?

Here's a good start for color profiles:

For QTR, or for other products? If its for QTR, there are specific QTR lin,
and CreateICC export formats in PFP2, so you should definately be working with
that. As for "the tutorial" you have great faith that there is one. From whom?
Covering what? Certainly not from ColorVision, it would fall to the company
whose product you are linearizing.
