Two Embarassing Questions

Two Embarassing Questions

2006-03-24 by G Guhan Gunaratnam

Hello,

I've got some VFA to print on, and I need to know which is the printable
side. One is cleaner than the other (smoother texture) and whiter. This is
the side I assumed I should print on. The first print is coming through the
printer now and I can see some runnning of the ink along the edge of the
print. I did use -5 for ink density..should I have used more?

What size do you print your final prints when printing on 13x19 paper?
Assuming a 3:2 uncropped image, could anyone share what print size is
considered the standard and what the TOP and LEFT margins should be (for
optical centering)?

Any help is appreciated

Guhan

Guhan, this is a link to a method for optical centering.

http://www.russellcottrell.com/photo/centering.htm

As for size, on 13x19 i print anywhere from 12x8 to approx 15.75x10.5

i try to use some fraction of the native 2880 resolution of my 2200 printer. i.e., 360 dpi,
576 dpi, 720 dpi.

Thanks a lot, that's a nice little formula.

Now my question is, should I use it? Or should I centre on my inkjet
prints, and use the formula when matting the print?

Don't touch your tongue to the paper! Simply touch your index finger and
your thumb to your tongue, then touch a corner of the paper. The print side
will stick to either your thumb or index finger.

Thanks Tina,

I think I'll skip the tongue test. I'm pretty sure I've got the it

printing on the proper side, just want to make sure its the brighter

side I should be printing on.

Thanks again
