The australian Epson R230 doesn't want to recognize the chips on the MIS ink cartridges. Does anyone have any solutions?

Was there any explaination as to why MIS chips don't work in the R230? Does anyone know if this is still a problem? I would like to but the R230 and get the Eboni ink and the MIS carts but it would be a hassle to have to mangle the Epson cart to get the MIS ones to work. Although I could just use up the shipped cart and use that chip... blah, blah. I am suer that htere are many solutions if it is stil a problem.
