2006-01-30 by emandle123

hello,

i am printing on the epson 1280 using MIS UT2 inks on photo rag ( 188 gsm) and the
quadtone rip. (2.3)/ i have been having a problem with thin lines extending beyond the
print--as if there was fringing along the side of the image. my nozzels are clean. i set the
paper to thickest paper.
any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated.

thank you !

Hello Lea,

Unfortunately I have no good news-that problem is caused by the head
controler board or the head itself going bad, and the repair bill is
too high to make sense considering you can still get factory
refurbished 1280s for what it costs to have them repaired plus
shipping-sorry. If you print primarily in one tone you could
relocate the relevant ink shades and eliminate the positions that
are not being controled properly. That might give you some aditional
mileage while you decide what to replace it with.

Lea, I can confirm Steve's diagnosis and conclusion. It happened to
one of my 1280's. However mine was within the one year warranty
period. It was like pulling teeth to get Epson to warranty replace it,
but they did.

And, if Epson customer service asks if you are using genuine Epson
ink, there is only one answer acceptable to them.
