QTR 2.30 icc - Help!

QTR 2.30 icc - Help!

2005-07-16 by hkbenji

Hi all, I hope that someone might be able to help me...

For BW, I use a hp 7960 printer with the grey cartridge. I'm very
interested in creating icc profiles for that printer, so Roy's new
stand-alone application seems to be perfect for that. I'm just having
a few problems getting it right.

OK, so first - printing the QTR-21 gray target; should I use the
embedded 2.2Gamma profile or discard it and print as a untagged gray
file? Then, using Photoshops print with preview - I should set it up
as "No Color Management", yes?

Next, scanning of the target, appears to be working fine.

Then, linearizing - I'm a bit lost here; I assume this requires the
use of the actual QTR program? I've never used QTR before, so I'll
have to do some reading up on that one.

Assuming I've got the linearization done, and got the icc-file; do I
use that on a grayscale or RGB file? If grayscale, what Gamma? Can I
use it to Soft-Proof? If so, do I use the Perceptual Rendering Intent
or something else?

How about in the Print with Preview Setup - Perceptual or Relative
Col.?

Many Thanks for your help!

Ben

Whatever gray workspace you prefer - gamma 2.2 or QTR gray which is
what I use

Yes

You have to assume that your HP output is linear or near linear. You
can't use QTR.

grayscale

doesn't matter, but use the grayspace you used to make the icc

Yes, perceptual.

In print with preview just select the icc profile under printer space
and use perceptual
