Epson 4800 firmware

Epson 4800 firmware

2005-07-02 by Steve Kale

For the brave 4000 owners, I just noticed that Epson UK has posted firmware for the 4800
here:

http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDownload.aspx?lng=en-
GB&ID=23927&data=7D3D3DF1BB158B5EEFFE88F3C45EC525330E6C29D3037DEB5DA730EE
0335748A

I have no idea whether it would work but perhaps this would allow one access to all 8 inks on
a 4000 or to upgrade a 4000 to the 4800.

Anyway, fyi.

FIle is not accepted by the 4000's firmware updater. I didn't expect
an easy solution, but I would like to get access to that 2nd black
slot (may have to hire an experienced hacker).

Need to know what processor Epson uses for each machine. Might
require opening the two machines to hopefully be able to see where
the micro controller comes from and what it is, and then only if they
didn't pay for a special OEM stamp on the chip casing. Chances are
good that it comes from Hitachi, but just a guess.

There is a chance that Epson has a hidden command that will let a RIP
use that other channel, and if there is it should come to light with
the command set for the 4800. This chance may be slim, so don't hold
you breath.

Now if by chance, they use the exact same main board, then it will
just be a matter of modifying a few lines of the 4800 firmware so
that the 4000 updater will work with it. Should be a fairly easy task
for anyone that regularly uses any of this level of micro controller.

So, anyone willing to take the mainboard out of their 4000 and 4800?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
