Frustration with UT7 carts for 2200

Frustration with UT7 carts for 2200

2005-06-15 by SteveZ

I've tried some test prints on EEM paper using these inks using both
of Paul Roark's workflows (slider adjustments and adjustment curves).
I'm quite certain I've followed his instructions to a "T", but for
some reason, two things keep happening:

I keep getting vertical banding

The prints are very much on the warm side and much lighter than they
should be even when I'm using UT7 2200 EEM-1.acv

Again, my settings for source space, print space and color management
all seem to be correct. I even checked that I had the carts in the
correct positions (I'm using Ebony Black UT7-T0348) and still I'm
having NO success in getting anywhere near to a decent acceptable
print.

Any suggestons?

Update: The vertical banding has stopped, I guess it was caused by
the adjustment of switching from UC to UT7 inks. But prints are
still coming out really sepia toned and washed out even though I am
using the cool-1 curve for EEM.

Why is this happening?

Are you sure you're getting a good nozzle check?

I posted some test files at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Test-files.htm
that will help you determine if the right inks are in the right places.

Double check settings, and be sure some other profile has not found its way
into the mix.

Paul, I checked the ink position and they are identical to UC ink cart
postioning with Ebony Black being used instead of Light Black.
I've also checked the settings, there obviously is a problem somewhere-
along the line. I'd appreciate hearing ANY suggestions about this
matter.

Steve,

When you print the file at

http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Purge7-2.jpg

it should look like this:

http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Purge7-UT7-2200.jpg

UC colors have nothing to do with the UT7 inkset, and Eboni in the LK makes
me doubt you have the UT7 inkset.

Is it possible you have the "UT" inkset MIS made for BowHaus? It's very
different than the UT7 inkset that I use, and it does put Eboni in the LK
spot. MIS has the BowHaus UT2200 at http://www.inksupply.com/ut2200bh.cfm.

As MIS states at the above URL, my curves will not work with the UT2200 BH
inkset.

Sorry, Paul, my mistake, I meant to say earlier in this thread that
I have the UT7 Ebony Black cart in the MATTE BLACK position.

Steve,

Assuming your nozzle checks are perfect, be sure when you "Print with
Preview" in CS2 that, if you are using the curves method of printing, the
Document Profile shows Adobe RGB and the Options > Color Handling shows "No
Color Management."

In the driver's last box be sure you've checked "ICM" and then "No Color
Adjustment."

If a curve has been applied, the monitor will show that clearly through the
bright colors.

Good luck.
