I'll soon need to order a few hundred sheets of 13X19 Moab Entrada
Natural (or similar)...I should sample some other papers first.

I have zero "flake" problem with Entrada...air-blasting eliminates the
culprit dust (apparently a problem in a batch last year)..Entrada
seems otherwise very resistant to abrasion etc.

What other *relatively well known* (for marketing purposes), heavy,
natural, matte (minimal texture) papers would you suggest that I
sample, given that I will only be using OEM Ultrachrome?

Hmmm... I have had lots of flakes with Entrada even
after brushing/rubbing with a microfiber cloth.
Haven't tried air but nearly everything else.

I have switched to Hawk Mountain Condor Natural. This
is really nice paper! Nice creamy toned paper base,
great scale, takes ink really well. No flakes and
quite tuff. I have been using the QTR Entrada "curves"
warm and sepia look wonderfull with this paper.

Good luck!

Guy, once I saw that loose paper dust was the issue the frequently
suggested brush/microfiber method (Moab's idea?) never made as much
sense to me as compressed air.

When I first saw the problem it did appear to be "flaking." Then a
Moab person was quoted as saying the paper should have been vacuumed
after cutting and before packaging.

I initially printed on top of loose detritis...then it fell off
leaving white spots...not seem the same as a fragile surface that
"flakes."

I'm abusing an old Entrada Natural/Ultrachrome 300gsm test print right
now...it's only being damaged by extreme abuse (eg thumbnail
gouging/scraping). It shows no abrasion from living for several months
in a casually handled stack of rejects. I also notice that it doesn't
run when wet (this is OEM pigment, inks may be more soluble).

I'm looking at alternatives only to see if I prefer the look of other
papers.

One Entrada-like alternative is inkjetart.com's Museum Digital. I want
to sample several others.

Thanks about the dust vs flaking thing. Certainly
heartbreaking when it happens on a print just as you
are delivering it to someone.

I have been playing with Museum Digital too. No flakes
(or dust -- I need to try the air trick tonight). It
is a lighter weight paper than Entrada and it doesn't
have as much yellow in the paper tone. For some images
it has worked really well. Some of my floral stuff
just glows on the MD paper and the blacks are solid. I
wonder what Paul doesn't like about it?

I still say try the Condor Natural too.
