Dear group, I noticed on the MIS site, that 2200 refill carts are available (I didn't found a complete refill kit yet). What I understand is that the inside of these carts is different from the original Epson carts. Because I'm about to buy a refill kit, I'd like to know if anyone has already used these carts, how the refill process went, and if they are as reliable as Epson carts. Thanks in advance, Rene Bakker http://home.wanadoo.nl/rene.r.bakker

I have used the newer carts, and found them more reliable, easier to refill. they appear, by my experience, as reliable as the epson carts, have refilled several times with them. Patrick -- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, René Bakker <gretha.bakker@w...> wrote:

The new carts are available for several models; I bought the R300 version, and am quite happy with them. They have been completely reliable, and are very easy to fill. Im totally spoiled by these new carts. I don't want to mess with any others now. (I wonder if the CFS business isn't history.) A few issues that I've wondered about with these new carts are as follows: First, if we are going to be re-using them for a long time, should we be putting tape over the air inlet holes so that the complex and restricted inlet design is used properly. That is, you'll notice the pattern of a small channel on the top that leads to an inlet. Then there is a second inlet that goes straight in. I think the designers had in mind that the straight-in fill hole be blocked, and the convoluted, small channel be the air inlet and be under a label except for the very end of it. This restricted air inlet may stop the ink from drying out on the top of the filter/foam part of the cart. I've started to tape over the tops of the carts so that only that small channel allows air in. Second, when switching carts, I've started to rinse off the outlets before taping over them to try to minimize the possibility of dry ink getting into the printer. Third, I think it might be wise to re-fill or "top off" the carts way before the printer says they are empty. I think it might be better to never let the "filter" (and perhaps ink foam) get dry. Fourth, the carts start much easier if they are "primed" by pulling some ink out the outlet with a syringe and a bottom fill adapter. The idea is to remove the air bubble that can be left right next to the outlet when the cart is filled via the fill hole into the reservoir. (Vacuum filling eliminated this problem from pre-filled carts.) So, I fill the reservoir with a 10 cc syringe and MIS needle, put in the cork, turn the cart partially upside down so that the air bubble is at the outlet but the ink is still covering the connection between the reservoir and filter section, then I try the pull out the air. I notice MIS has an adapter for UC carts. I just filed a standard bottom-fill adapter to 7 mm (the "snout" of it) and, it seems to work. I'm not sure whether this practice would also be a good idea for a used cart that has been switched out of the printer for a while. So far, the used carts that are re-installed seem to start quickly. If more that one cleaning cycle is needed, however, I'd guess air has gotten into the outlet and a "priming" is warranted. Anyway, we'll learn more about these carts as we get more experience with them, but right now, they seem ideal. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Barbara, I wish the "easy-refill" carts were available for the 1280, but as far as I know MIS has not found any. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
