MIS EZ carts interchangable?

MIS EZ carts interchangable?

2004-12-15 by scott_now_coming

I just ordered a set of EZN carts for a C86 that I will be purchasing
shortly.

I ordered the Eboni and the MIS Photo black.

Am I correct in assuming I can interchange these two black inks with
out flushing the system?

Thanks,
Scott

RE: [Digital BW] MIS EZ carts interchangable?

No flushing is required when Eboni and PK are interchanged.

I don't know if the pre-loaded carts are the poppet valve type. If not,
they can take a fair number of cleaning cycles to get going.

With the new, easy-refill, poppet-valve carts, I have interchanged blacks
and find one cleaning is needed if it's been a while since the last change.

I'm now thinking that to avoid dried ink in the cart outlets, it may be a
good idea to squirt some water at the outlet of the cart just taken out to
wash the exterior ink off. I'm using a syringe with water in it to do this.
I then tape the outlet.

If you have not explored the convenience and lower ink costs of these new
carts with bulk ink, you might want to check it out. I'm easily and cheaply
doing B&W & color, matte and glossy with a single C86. I even have
different types of PK available. I've pulled UC PK out of a 7600 cart for
use with Epson Premium papers, where it has a significant dmax advantage. I
have a row of half-used carts next to the printer. As needed I just squirt
a little more ink into the top of the cart and re-set the chip. (I could
use, however, a good profile for the MIS 7600 color pigs I'm using.)

Epson C86 Deal! (was: MIS EZ carts interchangable?)

2004-12-15 by scott_now_coming

Thanks Paul.

And I thought I'd pass along a great deal in case anyone is
interested.

I just returned from CompUSA where I bought a C86 for $99. It has a
$30 mail-in-rebate, PLUS a mail-in-$20 gift card offer.

And that not all! If you purchase qualifying Epson paper, you get a
$10 mail-in-rebate!

So, it's like getting the C86 for $49!

Now,.... where's my MIS carts........!

Re: MIS EZ carts interchangable?

2004-12-23 by scott_now_coming

Hi Paul,

I just installed the EZN carts in my C86 ("virgin" printer)and am
having banding problems with the magenta and yellow positions.

I've run about 6 cleanings and the printer is telling me that
the "PK" is less than 20% full. The other inks are at least 3/4 full.

Can this be correct?

I've only printed one 7.125" x 7.125" photo.

(The photo look awesome, once I get rid of the slight "banding").

>I've only printed one 7.125" x 7.125" photo.

>(The photo look awesome, once I get rid of the slight "banding").

I have noticed that the black ink seems to disappear quickly in those
printers. I highly recommend the easy-refill carts and bulk ink.

Many say that you should never do more than 3 cleaning cycles in a row. Do
a purge print between them. Also, most "clogs" are really air. So,
especially with hand filled carts, letting them sit in the printer over
night to allow the air bubbles to rise has been one of the typical remedies.

With new carts, I generally expect good nozzle checks rather quickly. If a
cart were removed and later put back on, air often would get into the
outlet. The easy-refill, poppet types really have improved this.

With the easy-refill types, I've noticed that they can have air at the
outlet if they were filled directly into the reservoir. I use a syringe
with a bottom-fill adapter, shortened to 7 mm, to pull that air out the
outlet before I install the cart. It "primes" the cart in a sense.

If this was a brand new C86, maybe your problems are also an indication that
the OEM inks should have been installed first. I just did this with a new
1280. Some think printers should be started new with the OEM ink. I've
done this sometimes and sometimes not. I'm not sure it makes any
difference.

Hope some of this is relevant to your situation.

[Digital BW] Re: MIS EZ carts interchangable?

Thanks Paul.

Everthing seem fine now. Must have been because it was new.

I did remove and re-install the PK cart at one point. Could that have
caused the ink level to "mis-read?

RE: [Digital BW] Re: MIS EZ carts interchangable?

2004-12-23 by Paul Roark

Scott,

The chip remembers the ink level (and this is a very useful function of
those chips). So, re-installing a cart should not affect the accuracy of
the ink level in that cart.

Thanks Paul.

Everthing seem fine now. Must have been because it was new.

I did remove and re-install the PK cart at one point. Could that have
caused the ink level to "mis-read?

Re: MIS EZ carts interchangable?

2004-12-24 by weareallsosmall

After running many cleaning cycles, while trying to get rid of the
banding with the plain paper setting (futile! :) ), I noticed that
this printer wastes ALOT of black ink. So much so that I cringe when I
have to do a cycle now. Don't know if its the small carts or the
printer itself, but I wouldn't doubt if 10% or more of the black ink
disapears with each run.

RE: [Digital BW] Re: MIS EZ carts interchangable?

2004-12-24 by Paul Roark

The C86 drinks black ink. I think that is how Epson makes money on it.

The solution is the easy-refill cart (like the one pictured here
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/c84refill.html), with MIS
bulk ink (Eboni or PK for the black, EZ grays for the others -- see
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/utez.html) and a chip
resetter. (See http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/qb7.html.

Note that for the C86/84 carts fit the resetter better if the resetter guide
is modified as shown in the following photo on my webpage:
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/C86_Resetter_Guide.jpg. This is also
accessible from my printing information index at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/index.htm.
