A question on using the Epson 890

A question on using the Epson 890

2004-11-29 by awahlster

I'm finally getting around to setting up my light room that I bought
everything for this last spring.

In setting up the printers the Canon 960i that I will be using for
color setup very well and the first test prints are very very good
(can't wait to learn how to use it properly)

The Epson 890 I bought just to use with UT-2 Inks for B&W printing is
being a bit of a problem. I am testing it out with the supplied ink
before I go B&W with it.

Anyway trying to learn the interface is becoming a pain in the butt. I
finally figured out how to print a 5X7 print but it will only do it in
the center of the page and the results are VERY grainy I did the
alignment stuff but really couldn't see any differance between the
little squares with regards to grain even with my loop.

SO does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks MUCH MORE later I'm sure LOL

Mark: the 890 is just a 1280 with a narrower carriage. I have both
printers. I'm at a loss as to why your prints are "grainy". Could it
be the neg or the scan? It's a bit tough to diagnose your problem
without much information. I do know that the 890 can output prints
that look as good as a 1280, 2200 or any other printer.

Thanks for trying to help Bob I think I found that the printer was
printing at 360dpi after amping up to 2880 it looks almost as good as
the print from my Canon 960i. Color is better with the Canon but that
is most likely settings and since as soon as I get the how to use
stuff figured out this printer will be used for B&W only with UT-2
inks color don't matter that is what the Canon printers job will be.
No sign of the grain. And the file it was taken from was a digital
capture with my Canon G3 so no scan or film grain.

Still trying to figure out how to get it to print from the various
editing programs I have so I'll most likely run into more things I
need to ask about.

Thanks back soon

Mark W.
