Your paper choices: your database

Your paper choices: your database

Fellow BW printers,

I set up a database to gather the names of your favorite papers and the kinds
of uses you put them to (portfolios, books, proofs, exhibitions etc). Except, in
this case, you can be the authors and fill in the records yourselves! It's a
feature provided by Yahoo for groups like this.

You can easily access it by clicking on "database" to your left on the browser
page for the group (if you only get emails, please visit at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint). Please start a
new record and fill in the information as requested by each column.

Some caveats:

1.- Please limit your entries to your favorite papers only - not the ones you
have tested and rejected or ones you have heard of and are interested to try.

2.- Please do not write lengthy comments as they broaden the height of each
line and make it difficult to scroll.

3.- I realize that you may not remember prices or even weights for papers you
use. The important info is the name and source for a paper - even if you live
outside the US - it will help others perhaps.

4.- Don't worry about the various names of Hahnemuehle at this point. I plan
to upload a plain text file to resolve that. Just name the paper as you bought
and used it.

5.- I made a column for "author". The idea is to have a way to contact you for
further information, or post a question on the list in reference to your
comments. It's up to you what contact you wish to provide (name, email, site
etc)

5. - If you are a reseller, distributor or manufacturer of papers, please read the
list for valuable input about how we use papers and what we like most. But
please do not use it to advertise your product by entering it into these records.
We are trying to keep this for end-users only.

So, here it is, in your hands. Let's see what we can gather from this info. My
hope is that we will see what papers are the most popular and for what uses
and inksets, and what sources are preferred by most.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
