You print with Piezo, right?

Although Piezo has somewhat different absorbtion characteristics than the
MIS VM inkset, with MIS VM inks EAM and Museo print nearly perfectly with
the same profile. (In the MIS VM case, that means no profile.) So, you
might try the Piezo EAM profile.

Paul thanks, I'll try it. I know Robert recomends the piezo concord rag
profile but I find there is a big hike in the lower mid greys.

Museo in Europe.

2001-12-02 by meander@mail.dk

Good day,

I have reached the final print presentation stage, and would be
grateful if anyone in Europe would be willing to send me a small
sample of Museo for paper surface comparison.

Probably best to take this off list.

TIA,

Jerry.

Julian,

I found that Museo coated better than any other paper I tried. If you coat
it you will not need to worry about the blacks. Uncoated I read densities of
about 1.46 to 1.48 in the deepest shadows and on the same print coated with
Golden materials I get 1.89 to 1.91. On selenium toned Ilford I read 2.1.

Re: [Digital BW] museo

It's not the quantity but the quality of black. this shot for eg
http://www.foundobjectsgallery.com/holga/pages/dancer_jpg.htm prints great
on PR but really 'gritty' on museo, almost posterised. I'll try making a
'lighter' print and then coating once I've got th estuff. I'll try the
formula from the files page. I'm in the UK soon so I should be able to pick
the stuff up.

I just sprayed some EAM with Lyson Print Guard to see how it affects the
fade/warm-shift in testing. I actually measure lower Dmax on EAM with the
sprayed papers. Any idea why the blacks are going the other direction from
what you are measuring on Museo?

Julian,

Museo can't give you deep blacks, Try a hahnemuhle paper.

1) The spray may be increasing scattering and reflectivity of the
coating used in the EAM..

2) Pigment may actually migrate into the spray.. if that happens, the
physical density (per volume, not optically) of the pigment would
axiomatically drop.. since you would then be passing through pigment
over a further distance, the chance of scattering and reflection as
light passes through the suspension will increase.. That would decrease
overall Dmax.

If the latter is the case, laying down extra pigment on higher density
areas (when a print is intended to be sprayed) should help... In the
former case it probably would not help to lay down more ink

Remind me Julian...what's your workflow...are you using the piezo driver?
Are you using the Crane Museo profile...you might also check the Orwell
profile...but in my experience the Museo profile is less compressed in
shadows.

Sprays don't work like the brushed/rolled coatings. I've never seen one of
them that made the print look better...they seem to just sink into the matte
papers instead of sit on top. In contrast they work well on gloss papers.
What was the "finish" of the spray...you want something that is gloss (not
semi-gloss or satin).

Julian,

Very nice shot!

I have this one image that I used for all my coating trials using Piezo inks
and the Piezo driver. I printed on the Museo using the Epson Photo Paper
profile. Was last summer with the previous version of the Piezo software.
Other than being a bit weaker in the blacks than the H. papers I don't see
any difference. However, paper lots and curves do change.

You might want to start with a normal print, coat that and see where you
want to go. It is good to have a reference to an uncoated print.

Martin

Re: [Digital BW] museo

2002-04-11 by Martin Wesley

Paul,

My measurements (finally got the Spectrocam) were on prints that had 3 or 4
coats of Golden varnish brush applied. I never found any Dmax increase with
the sprays and sometimes it caused a decrease. I believe that the sprays may
increase the light scatter. Rather than moving towards glossy they can take
you towards a pearl finish.

Yeah I'm using FS with the piezo driver. I use museo for those prints that
need a looooong grey scale.

Ricardo,

Go to the Files section of the homepage and in it you will find a folder on
coating and in the various files there you will find a formula for the
"Morrison Mix" sealer and some of the procedures I used including for Museo.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
