Inkflow reliability comparison between Epsons?

Inkflow reliability comparison between Epsons?

2004-04-16 by Richard Smallfield

Hello,
I currently have not one, but two 1200s that I can't get a proper nozzle check from ... one of them's gone off to be serviced and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the other one - but it's been over a week with no joy, having tried all the tricks short of pulling out the head and soaking it (which I suspect I lack the intelligence to do!).

My questions are this:
1. Is inkflow more likely to be a problem on printers with a smaller droplet size? If that's the case, I would imagine the 1160 could be more reliable than my 1200s.
2. Is inkflow generally less problematic with a CIS than from refilling carts? I imagine that all the pulling out and putting in carts with the refills might add to my problems, as inkflow has to be continually restarted.

thanks,
Richard

Richard,
I've been using an Epson 1160 with a CIS since about four years and
still get perfect nozzle checks 9 times out of 10. And I use the
printer one or two days a week.

I've used three different inksets so far (Original Piezo inkset, MIS-
FSN and now using MIS-UT) and made sure to replace the cartridges
with new ones each time. I still use the original tubing from
Nomorecarts and I replace the ink bottles somewhere at the 3/4" to
5/8" level. These bottles sit on the same plane as the printer.

While I now get the bulk ink from MIS I still buy my blank cartridges
from Inkjetmall. And it could be that the tubing from NomoreCarts
(now going on 4 years) was of better quality than what MIS was
selling at that time.

If I were to get an endless clog, I would make sure the cartridge
were seated properly and next I would replace them.

HTH,
Andre
