Thanks

Pretty basic QTR question here so hoping someone can help. If I install
Harrington's QTR will it affect the ability to print via the normal Epson
driver? My concern is that I need to be able to print from a well
established workflow to a 2200, 7500 and 1270 in color so I don't want the
presence of the QTR to interfere. For instance, regarding the gimp driver
that's required, does it "override" the existing system? Just don't want to
screw anything up!

Thanks for your help!

Rick

Nothing changes. You can keep using the Epson driver for colour printing (or
anything else).

I am also new to the group and have been reading for a few days to get
an idea of what tools are available to get better black and white
digital prints (I am using an Epson 1160 printer with MIS dye ink).

The web site <http://harrington.com/QuadToneRIP.html> says to download
and read the quick start and release notes. After running the installer
(windows 2.2a) I can't find any quick start or release notes. I would
like to find something that clearly explains what the program does and
how to effectively use it.

I have played a little bit and have on "OK" print and one useless print.
Then I decided I didn't want to waste paper and ink trying to learn how
to use it.

None of the printers I use is on the list of acceptable printers.

I am using an Epson C66 which is basically a slower C86.

What do I do now?

I don't know where that impression came from--the web site doesn't mention
any of the C series printers, or the EZN inks.

It would be nice if he could at least put in a print engine for more
printers, even if he didn't do any profiles. But I'm happy--it supports my
old 2000P, which I've pulled out of mothballs for use with the UT-FS inks.
Currently working on my own curves--film at 11.

If someone could hold my hand to get my 200P out of mothballs to get it to
black and white, I would do it in a flash. I am getting my D100 converted to
IR. and will need a B&W printer. On the shelf is the 2200, 1800, 800 that
needs a new home and the 2000P in a box on a shelf.

Well, I just started out with QTR, so I'm no expert. Also, although I've
tried QTR with my 2200 and the stock inks, I haven't done so with the 2000P.
Instead, I bought the UT-FS and UT-FSN inks from MIS, and am trying to
develop QTR curves for them. I'm still pretty far up on the learning curve,
though.

However, setting up QTR, at least on Windows, was pretty trivial. If I
manage to come up with some good curves, I'll certainly publish them.

By the way, who's doing your IR conversion?

QTR

2014-08-03 by Truman Prevatt

I just downloaded and installed QTR to use on my Epson R3000 on my Mac. I would like to use it on Harman Gloss Baryta. However, I don't see a profile that would be a good starting point. In fact most of the profiles are for matte. Any suggestions on how to get started?

Thanks,
Truman

Re: QTR

Don't know about the R3000, but typically there are profiles for Silver Rag 1 or 2 other of the baratya papers. I have had good luck using those as starting points to dial in the other similar papers. I would start there.

Re: [Digital BW] QTR

2014-08-12 by Truman Prevatt

I just ordered and received some Silver Rag from Museo. I thought I would try it since there was a profile in QTR. I must say that has become my favorite paper. It is special.
I did print on my Harman Gloss Baryta using the Silver Rag profile. It worked nicely. It might need a little tweaking. However, out of the box it was slightly better than the
Epson driver. But I do like the Silver Rag.
