MIS says they have no immediate plans for outting UT inks in carts for the Epson 3000 - nor do they have a workflow. So I'm still using the original qaudtones. Is there anyone else out there who wants UT carts and workflow for the 333?

> MIS says they have no immediate plans for outting UT inks in carts >for the Epson 3000 - nor do they have a workflow. ... You have to load your own carts. It's easy. I have curves for the 3000 and UT inks. The 3000 and UT inks make output that has some visible dots. For large display prints it'll probably be OK. The UT-FSN is a new neutral ink that is Piezo/FS compatible and works on the 3000. There are existing workflows for it, and I'll be making new curves for it and a pure carbon version. So, with the Epson driver you get a great dmax, with the Piezo driver, you get ultimate smoothness. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Wendel, I already have some production UT-FSN in bulk. So, I suspect if you call MIS they'll sell it now. Paul www.PaulRoark.com _____________________________________

Paul, Does MIS have a sepia toner for the UT-VM ink set? It is my understanding that with the original VM inks the black and grays were identical in both the cool and the sepia set, the difference being only in the toner that is used. Would this also be true of the UT version of VM? Thanks, Roger

Roger, >Does MIS have a sepia toner for the UT-VM ink set? Sort of -- I mixed a light toner for the Bowhaus system that will pull the warm gray UT inks to sepia. But in a single-toner inkset, the most neutral you'd be able to get is the current UT warm. > It is my understanding that with the original VM inks the black >and grays were identical in both the cool and the sepia set, >the difference being only in the toner that is used. No, the grays used in the VM-S inkset were the same as the FS-N grays. That is one reason the FS-N gray was cool. It was to keep the tones of the VM-S inkset neutral further down into the shadows. One problem I have with the VM-S inkset is that first the grays had to be toned cool to get a neutral. Then we added more color pigs to get it warm again -- too much color for me. I suppose if you have a quad and wanted a UT-VMS, the new UT-FSN could be used with a stronger UT sepia toner, but it, again, would have to use more color to get the sepia than the UT-2 dual toner approach can achieve. Carrying on with the same idea, more or less, do you think one could use the sepia toner from the current vm-s quad set with the UT-FSN black & grays to approximate vm-s or is the ink chemistry simply not compatible between the two formulations? Roger

Sort of -- I mixed a light toner for the Bowhaus system that will pull the
warm gray UT inks to sepia. But in a single-toner inkset, the most

Roger, >... do you think one could use the sepia toner from the current >vm-s quad set with the UT-FSN black & grays to >approximate vm-s or is the ink chemistry simply not compatible >between the two formulations? It would probably work, but the curves would need tweaking. Depending on the printer, I might be more inclined to just mix a sepia toner with about 15% each of MIS 7600 Y & M, with the remainder a light gray, like the UT lightest gray. (The light gray cuts the gamut of the toner and helps hide the dots.) That keeps the chemistry in the UT family, which has a number of advantages. One advantage of mixing your own is that there is a wide spectrum of sepia tones. You might as well take control of that variable so you can mix just what you want by varying the yellow/magenta ratio. Paul www.PaulRoark.com ________________________________
