CIS Black CLOG on 1160 wont go away....

CIS Black CLOG on 1160 wont go away....

2003-05-20 by Andrew Brilliant

Ugh got a real bad clog on my 1160. CIS Black ink.
Have tried all the usual solutions. Both liquid and mechanical. Cones
tips and tried ammonia and alcohol. Also some strange cleaning fluid
from that company in Las Vegas. Did not work.
I hardly get any ink coming out of that nozzle, the numbers don't even
print.

I suppose I have to get it serviced.

One last idea was to get an original Epson black cartridge and see if that
ink will open up the nozzles. Does anyone think that is a good idea or are
there some new ideas for cleaning . I have not looked around for cleaning
ideas since last summer.

I need to start making some new B&W print quadtones. By the way this clog
is with MIS inks!!!

Sticking in an Epson OEM cartridge (brand new) is a great idea. It always
works for me. You could have air in your CIS rather than a clog, BTW.

Agree 100% with Helene. This was pretty much what I would have done
before trying many of your cleaning solutions. Unless you have an
unlikely hugeamongous clog right at the bottom of the nipple where it
does a right angle turn (AFAIK) and thereby would choke off the whole
nozzle pattern, this is almost certainly an air block- or lack of CIS
delivery.

I'd bet that your CIS is the problem...popping in an Epson cart will
tell you if it's the head or the CIS AND clean the head out a little
which can't hurt it.

A lot of folks try to recover a CIS and a good method would be to
remove ink from bottom with syringe and optional bottom fill adapter
and return to bottle, repeat. Since it's the K cart you might want to
consider just replacing the cart, snipping the old off at the tubing,
then recharging.

I'm not surprised at all it is MIS inks clogging- I had more problems
with them than the old Cone PiezoBW inks- CLOG wise. PiezoBW for me
had far greater problems though...can't speak for the new MIS inks.

Go read the MIS website about dealing with CFS clogs. Could be air in
the lines, could be a clogged line from the ink bottle to the cart. Of
course, putting in a Epson cart and using that to diagnose the problem
is the first thing recommended on the MIS site.

Andrew,

Have you considered the lines? The black line is known for
clogging with dried ink if it sits idle for even a short time. When
this happens the black head is stuck due to a vacuum on the
supply side. You then must force clear the ink line. I switched
back to carts for this reason. I print in spurts, and the clogging
was a pain.

Good luck,

Dave
